Museum of Illusions, the global edutainment chain that has built more than 70 locations across 28 countries since its founding in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2015, is opening its first Northern California location at Downtown Commons (DOCO) in Sacramento, taking over a 10,000-square-foot space on the main level of the West Plaza, steps from Golden 1 Center. The listing is now live on the DOCO website, signaling that the opening might be closer than we think.
The Sacramento location will feature more than 80 immersive exhibits built around optical illusions, 3D holograms, brain-teasing puzzles, and interactive illusion rooms designed for visitors of all ages. And in true Sacramento fashion, some exhibits may draw inspiration from the Kings or other local themes, a nod to the arena that anchors the plaza just steps away.
The timing couldn’t be better for the brand. Earlier this year, Museum of Illusions was acquired by a New York-based investment group led by Brightwood Capital Advisors, signaling a major push to accelerate U.S. expansion. Sacramento is part of a 2026 growth wave that also includes new locations in Miami, San Francisco, London, and Birmingham. The company now operates 22 U.S. locations, with recent openings in San Diego and Salt Lake City.
For downtown Sacramento, the arrival adds another experiential draw to DOCO’s already growing entertainment mix, which also includes Sandbox VR, Escapology, Punch Bowl Social, and Century Theaters. Museum of Illusions appeals to the broad and multigenerational audience that makes DOCO look like something more engaging than a standard shopping trip.
