Bojangles, the Carolina-based fast food chain known for Southern-inspired breakfast, hand-breaded chicken tenders, made-from-scratch biscuits, and Legendary Iced Tea, is preparing to open three new locations in the San Antonio area: 11043 FM 471 in San Antonio, 6040 Bandera Road in Leon Valley, and 8312 FM 78 in Converse.
Two of the projects recently appeared in Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) permit filings, including the conversion of the former Arby’s at 11043 FM 471 into a 2,234-square-foot Bojangles and the construction of a new 4,177-square-foot restaurant in Leon Valley, which previously operated as a Taco Cabana. Franchise owner Terrence Thames tells What Now that the Converse and FM 471 restaurants are expected to open by the end of 2026, while the Leon Valley location is targeted for late 2026 or early 2027, depending on construction progress and weather.
Thames is leading the expansion through Jingle Jangle LLC as the brand continues to grow its presence across the San Antonio market. According to TDLR permit filings, the FM 471 and Leon Valley projects are each valued at $650,000 and are privately funded. The FM 471 restaurant will repurpose the former Arby’s building, while the Leon Valley location will be a new build. The Converse restaurant at 8312 FM 78 is also in development and will add another location to the growing regional footprint.
Founded in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1977, Bojangles has expanded to nearly 800 restaurants across 17 states. The brand is known for its made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits, Bo’s Chicken Sandwich, Bo Berry Biscuits, Bo Tato Rounds, and Legendary Iced Tea. In addition to the San Antonio locations, Thames and his team are planning further Texas growth, with restaurants coming to Corpus Christi and Weslaco in 2027 and future development planned for Laredo.
Unlike the brand’s traditional Carolina-market offerings, the San Antonio locations will feature a menu tailored to the local market. Customers can expect hand-breaded chicken tenders, breakfast biscuit combinations, sandwiches, and sides including Mac & Cheese, Fries, Cole Slaw, and Bo Rounds. Beverage options will include sweet tea, lemonade, milkshakes, and other seasonal offerings.
The three new restaurants will give Bojangles a broader presence across the San Antonio area, providing easier access for customers in the west, northeast, and northwest parts of the market. Thames said he and his team are excited to introduce more people in the San Antonio community to Bojangles and share the brand’s Southern culture and hospitality through its food and customer experience.
