Surfing Crab, a seafood restaurant specializing in Cajun seafood boils, fried seafood, and Southern-inspired dishes, is getting ready to open two new locations in Corpus Christi at 14030 South Padre Island Drive and 4101 Interstate Highway 69 Access Road.
The company’s new locations are planned for South Padre Island Drive and Five Points Shopping Center in Calallen, according to TDLR filings and the restaurant’s website. The South Padre Island Drive project will renovate an existing retail space into a restaurant, with the $400,000 privately funded construction project scheduled to begin Aug. 29, 2026, and finish by Feb. 20, 2027. While an exact opening date has not been announced for either location, customers can expect Surfing Crab’s seafood boils, fried seafood baskets, sandwiches, cocktails, and other seafood offerings.
Surfing Crab currently operates multiple locations throughout Texas, including restaurants in Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Portland, Brownsville, McAllen, Laredo, Victoria, San Marcos, and Round Rock. The company also operates a location in Escondido, California. The two upcoming Corpus Christi restaurants will add to the brand’s existing presence in the city, where it currently operates locations on South Staples Street and South Padre Island Drive.
The Calallen restaurant is planned for Five Points Shopping Center at 4101 Interstate Highway 69 Access Road, Suite B5, while the South Padre Island Drive location will be at 14030 South Padre Island Drive. The company lists both locations as coming soon, continuing its expansion throughout the Coastal Bend area. The projects will bring Surfing Crab closer to more customers throughout Corpus Christi and surrounding communities.
The menu centers around seafood boils where customers can choose from options including shrimp, crawfish, snow crab legs, lobster tail, mussels, clams, and calamari. Each boil comes with corn, potatoes, and sausage, with seasoning choices such as Cajun, garlic butter, lemon pepper, Old Bay, and the restaurant’s Surfing Special blend.
In addition to seafood boils, Surfing Crab serves fried seafood baskets, po’ boy sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, salads, fried rice, and desserts. The restaurants also offer a full bar with specialty cocktails, beer, and wine. The concept was created around the idea of bringing families and friends together over shared seafood meals inspired by Southern traditions.
