The first wave of retailers has been announced for The Merc, a mixed-use development taking shape in Northwest San Antonio.
Located at 5730 UTSA Blvd., the $350 million, 112-acre project has secured the initial tenants for its first retail phase, which will span approximately 35,000 square feet across three buildings. According to the San Antonio Business Journal, construction on the first retail buildings is expected to wrap up by the end of the summer, with tenants beginning interior build-outs shortly after. The first businesses are anticipated to open in early 2027.
The initial lineup features a mix of local operators and national brands.
Among the local additions is a new restaurant from the family behind Wild Goji Sushi, which has operated its revolving sushi restaurant in Castle Hills since 2016. While the concept’s name has not yet been revealed, a spokesperson for The Merc described it as a “technology-forward sushi and Asian dining experience.”
Other food and beverage tenants include Pür & Simple, the Canadian breakfast-and-brunch chain that opened its first U.S. location in San Antonio last year, as well as Pure Green, a juice bar and wellness franchise, and Hawaiian Bros Island Grill, which previously announced plans to join the development.
Additional tenants include Frenchies Modern Nail Care, further expanding the project’s mix of dining, wellness, and lifestyle offerings.
The Merc is being developed by Schumacher Interests, which acquired the property nearly a decade ago, while leasing is being managed by Shop Companies. According to the developer, more than 75% of the first phase of retail space has already been leased, with negotiations continuing for much of the remaining space.
“Tenant response has reinforced what we believed from the start: The Merc is positioned to become one of Northwest San Antonio’s most exciting new retail destinations,” Zach Fregosi of Shop Companies said in a statement.
Beyond restaurants and retail, The Merc will feature recreation amenities and community gathering spaces, including Park Golf, a nine-hole golf concept expected to open in 2027 adjacent to the Leon Creek Greenway trail system.
“This tenant lineup brings together the daily-use concepts our Merc residents and neighbors want: restaurants, wellness, beauty, coffee and recreation, while also creating room for locally owned small businesses to grow alongside exciting national brands,” Rob Schumacher, head of Schumacher Interests, said in a statement.
What Now San Antonio reached out to The Merc for additional information regarding the upcoming tenants and opening timelines but did not receive a response by the time of publication. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
