Overflo Potato is preparing to open its first brick-and-mortar restaurant at 2710 6th Ave. in Tacoma, taking over the former Pizza Time Pub space, according to The News Tribune. The family-owned concept is targeting an August grand opening.

Owners Destiny and Carwin Hawkins launched Overflo Potato nearly three years ago as a street-food business.

“The idea stems from Carwin’s roots in New Orleans, where loaded baked potatoes were his favorite lunch,” Destiny Hawkins told What Now Seattle. “After he moved to Washington in 2008 to be with me, we decided to combine our experiences to create something unique. By blending his Southern flavors with my Pacific Northwest roots, Overflo Potato was born.”

The move to a permanent location comes after customers repeatedly asked for more opportunities to visit beyond the business’s limited operating schedule.

“We explored several ways to expand, but the consistent push from our customers to be available more than three days a week is what ultimately inspired this move,” Hawkins said.

Located on Tacoma’s 6th Avenue, the new restaurant will offer a family-friendly atmosphere alongside a selection of beer, cocktails, and other alcoholic drinks. Guests can also expect a free pool table, darts, music, desserts, and the loaded baked potatoes that made the business popular.

While the menu will continue to feature customer favorites, Hawkins said the team is preparing a few surprises for opening day.

“We’ll be introducing a few new items specifically for our grand opening, along with a new potato and several signature drinks,” she said.

Looking beyond opening day, the owners of Overflo Potato plan to remain active in the neighborhood by participating in community events such as Art on the Ave and Porch Fest.

“Carwin and I strive to provide customer service that truly feels like home. In such a fast-paced world, we want to offer a comfort space where everyone feels welcome and valued,” Hawkins said.
