Leuty’s on Queen Preparing to Open in Toronto’s Beaches Neighborhood

The restaurant is set to move into the former home of Mira Mira Diner, with renovations currently underway

Leuty’s on Queen, a new neighborhood restaurant from first-time restaurateurs Gabby Martindale and Kamden Kennedy, is preparing to open in Toronto’s Beaches neighborhood at 1963 Queen St. E.

The restaurant is set to move into the former home of Mira Mira Diner, with renovations currently underway ahead of a targeted opening during the first week of August 2026. Co-owner Gabby Martindale tells What Now Toronto that customers can expect “a neighborhood restaurant with hospitality at the center of it.” The concept will offer refined comfort food, cocktails, wine, and beer in a setting designed for casual dinners, drinks with friends, happy hour, private events, and celebrations.

Named after the Beaches neighborhood’s historic Leuty Lifeguard Station, the restaurant aims to create a space that feels connected to the surrounding community. Martindale and Kennedy reportedly both bring hospitality experience from across Ontario, with Martindale originally from Waterloo and Kennedy from Thunder Bay. The pair said they were drawn to the Beaches because of its strong local identity and community involvement.

“We’re excited to be opening in the Beaches and to build something that feels like it belongs in the neighborhood,” Martindale says. “The area has such a strong identity, and people really seem to care about what opens around them, which is part of what drew us to it.”

The space will include a second-floor private dining area and a side patio, providing flexibility for both small gatherings and larger group events. According to the owners, the design inspiration draws from the water, the history of the Beaches, and European restaurants and bars they admired while developing the concept. The overall goal is to create a “third space” that feels more elevated than a pub while remaining approachable and comfortable.

“The food will be familiar and well executed, the cocktails will be balanced and easy to come back to, and the overall experience will be built around making people feel taken care of,” Martindale tells What Now Toronto. “We want it to be the kind of place that works for a lot of different moments.”

The menu and atmosphere are also expected to evolve based on customer feedback and neighborhood demand. As construction progresses, the team plans to continue sharing updates through the restaurant’s Instagram account, @leutysonqueen.
