A renowned concept is getting ready to make the DMV dining scene a little crabbier-news that, ironically, will delight area foodies. Frye’s Famous Crab Cake Co is bringing its interpretation of the titular dish-voted #1 in the country-to a new location in Gainesville, set to open later this summer.
Guests will be able to stop into Frye’s third and latest location in the Virginia Gateway Shopping Center, located at 7524 Iron Bar Lane. The restaurant will be opening in a storefront nestled between PR at Partners and European Wax Center. Frye’s owner Brandon Frye kindly made some time to speak with What Now DC about the concept’s new home and its future evolutions.
The Virginia Gateway Shopping Center location is sure to introduce a whole new clientele to Frye’s. Frye explains the allure of the space, saying: “It’s the number one shopping center in Prince William- and it’s close to my house.”
While the new restaurant will largely adhere to the same formula that made the small but mighty chain such a success already in Manassas and Ashburn, the Gainesville location will be a bit larger. Frye states that the storefront will span approximately 1,750 square feet and have seating for about 50 people.
While the menu will be the same as those at Frye’s other locations, the larger space will allow the restaurant to make a few comfort upgrades. Frye says: “We’re going to have booths in this one. They require a little bit more space. Our kitchen will be a little bigger in this one too. It’s going to be a really nice store.”
Frye’s Gainesville restaurant will precede the launch of the concept’s next chapter. Frye explains that after opening this third spot, he plans to evolve the business model. “We’re going to be franchising the business.” he says, pointing out that it will be a national first- “The first crab cake franchise in the country.”
Of course before Frye’s begins its next new adventure, it will be opening its doors in Gainesville. Guests won’t need to wait much longer to sink their teeth into the restaurant’s lauded fare; Frye hopes to have the establishment open in August.
