Le Piano is expanding next door to open a brand new takeout street food restaurant called Petite Le Piano, located at 6966 N. Glenwood Ave.
The new restaurant will take over the former Far East Kitchen sometime in May 2022, according to Block Club Chicago. Petite Le Piano will focus on grab-and-go foods and beverages, such as fresh juices, baguette sandwiches, and salads, while also focusing on sweet and savory crepes. The new eatery is intended to complement the brand’s adjacent jazz club, as well as provide healthier alternatives to the already limited food selection in Glenwood. When the new restaurant opens, guests can expect a potato bar and espresso and tea options.
“There aren’t many food options on Glenwood,” owner Chad Willetts tells Block Club Chicago. “We want to provide a healthy alternative instead of a hot dog, pizza, or gyro, which you can get anywhere.”
The new carry-out model restaurant comes at a perfect time, as Chicago’s Alfresco program will launch on Glenwood Avenue this spring or early summer. This program will give pedestrians more space for outdoor dining by providing gazebos, a stage, outdoor seating, and beautification efforts throughout Glenwood.
As a result, Willetts plans to take advantage of the outdoor seating and hopefully provide a convenient product for pedestrians. Willetts will also add an outdoor Frank Sinatra-themed fountain and a refurbished a piano from a closed club to be used for live music outdoors. Willets tells Block Club the Alfresco program was “part of our decision to open.”
