Sabbath Coffee Roasters to Build New Location in Royal Oak

The new establishment will feature a grab-and-go counter in the front and a production facility in the back.

Sabbath Coffee Roasters has filed plans to develop a new location in Royal Oak that will serve as a production facility, a grab-and-go storefront, and a tasting cafe. The new location will occupy a 2,343-square-foot building at 723 E 11 Mile Road. The building was previously occupied by a lawn care company.

According to materials submitted to the Royal Oak Planning Commission, the property will be split into front and back. The front area will feature a grab-and-go cafe that serves a selection of Sabbath’s coffee
beverages and baked goods made by local bakeries. The counter will be to-go only without customer seating.

The back of the building is reserved for production and operations, further segmented into a roasting area, a bagging station, an order fulfillment area for retail, wholesale, and online orders, and a storage space.

“This facility will enhance our efficiency and maintain our commitment to meticulous craftsmanship and meaningful customer interactions. We have met with several of the surrounding neighbors who are eager and excited for Sabbath to start work on this project,” the company wrote in the submittal.

Husband-and-wife duo Trevor and Miranda Graham established Sabbath Coffee Roasters’ flagship in 2015. The roastery currently has its flagship location at 24 E. 14 Mile Rd in Clawson. The roaster has won several local awards and is nationally-recognized with multiple awards for the company’s specialty coffee.

For too long, we, in the specialty coffee industry, have knowingly (or unknowingly) been gatekeepers of this amazing gift of coffee. Sabbath doesn’t want to be that. We want to honor the art and work that coffee farmers do, while also offering an incredible experience for anyone on their coffee journey,” wrote Trevor Graham on Sabbath Coffee’s website.
