Meama Cafe & Restaurant is seeking a liquor license at 78 Second Avenue, according to recently filed paperwork. The spot will take over the ground floor and basement levels.

Marika Gochiashvili, partner in the venture, told What Now New York that the location will be a full-service European-style Georgian restaurant. It will serve traditional Georgian dishes such as khinkali and pkhali, and it will feature a wine and beer beverage program.

The spot will have a modern, cozy interior, though the design is still being worked out. Gochiashvili is aiming to make the location a destination spot for locals in the neighborhood.

“It’s going to be a nice, cozy place for everyone to have lunch — like a quick bite during the day — but also have dinner with wine at night. We are going to have outdoor space and upgrade what exists there right now,” Gochiashvili said. “It’s going to be a nice place to have dinner with friends or celebrate milestones with family.”

Timing for opening will depend on permits, but Gochiashvili said they are aiming for an early spring opening.
