Developer Spence Ray, owner of The Overland restaurant located on the rooftop of the five-story TownePlace Suites by Marriott at 7800 Neshoba Rd., plans to open in December.
Both hotel and restaurant are currently under construction. The menu is not yet finalized, but it will be a full-scale restaurant open to the public in addition to hotel patrons seven nights a week, as well as for lunch. Reservations will be required and can be made by phone or on the restaurant’s website, which will be tied to the Thornwood development site.
Three areas make up the restaurant space. A private dining area available for meetings and events will seat 18. The main restaurant and bar will seat 42. And the outdoor patio, complete with firepit and a view of the Germantown Performing Arts Center outdoor stage, will seat 24.
The icing on the cake? Wraparound sliding glass doors can be opened up to tie all of the spaces together for major wow factor. “A tremendous amount of design work has been spent on that aspect … I’ve done a lot of traveling, and I don’t believe you will find anything like this anywhere else around here,” says Spence Ray.
The Thornwood development, “rooted in style,” is a 17-acre community fashioned with “Old World” European elegance. Featuring wide tree-lined sidewalks, historic brick facades and soothing green spaces, it offers convenient shopping, living and dining all within an atmosphere of comfort, conviviality and convenience.
Spence Ray feels called to what he does, which is, he hopes, to create experiences for people. Owning a restaurant is not necessarily his calling, but creating a space for people to experience connection and truly memorable encounters certainly is. “I own a restaurant to effectuate my calling so people can have this level of wonder, amazement and awesomeness that I want to create.”
