Majani Restaurant, the vegan restaurant that has lived in South Shore at 7167 S. Exchange Avenue, is looking to expand within Chicagoland.
Co-owners Nasya and Tsadakeeyah Emmanuel first opened the South Shore staple in May 2017 and have since gained a loyal fan base. The husband and wife team used the space to serve plant-based southern cuisine as a nod to their African heritage and rural upbringing. What started as a private-catering company has blossomed into a well-known South Shore restaurant. Majani Restaurant offers VIP options where customers get free gifts and cash back. Restaurateurs are also able to rent the restaurant’s shared kitchen.
Now, Block Club Chicago reports the restaurant is looking to expand beyond its South Shore location. The exact area of this expansion is unknown, but the publication points out a possible location. A brand new Time-Out-style food hall in Bronzeville, called The Grove Bronzeville, has been proposed to the city’s Planning Commission and is expected to be reviewed in either November or December 2022.
This proposed 86,000-square-foot development at 4731-59 S. Cottage Grove Avenue will include a food hall on the first floor, with the majority of tenants being Black female entrepreneurs. Potential partners include Five Iron Golf, L3 Agency, and Majani. The Grove Bronzeville will also feature a new metaverse restaurant that can transport guests to any virtual destination in the world. Whether or not this development moves forward, it proves Majani has its eyes set on expanding within the area.
