According to a recent article from the Daily Herald, a new concept called Brunch City Cafe plans to take over the former space of Excueses Bar and Billiards at 901 E Oakton St.

A representative of Brunch City Cafe was not immediately available for commentary upon What Now Chicago’s request.

According to the Daily Herald article, the new concept is slated to open sometime this year. “Lumnije Halimi and a company called the Lea Hospitality Group are behind the plan, documents indicate.”

“They’re eyeing the former Excueses Bar and Billiards − a 4,075-square-foot, freestanding building in the 5th Ward − for the new venture. Excueses closed in 2021, a city spokeswoman said.”

“But before Brunch City Cafe can serve its first omelet or stack of pancakes at 901 E. Oakton St., exterior and interior renovations expected to cost nearly $800,000 are needed, city documents indicate. The prospective operator has applied for a city grant to help cover those costs.”

According to an article from BNN Breaking, “Lumnije Halimi’s partnership with Zeman Homes and the Lea Hospitality Group underscores a collaborative approach to business development in Des Plaines.”

“This synergy, coupled with the strategic use of the BAP Growth grant, sets a strong foundation for Brunch City Cafe. The focus on a high-quality dining experience, from the ambiance to the menu, aims to attract not only locals but visitors from neighboring areas.”
