Indiana-based donut chain Parlor Doughnuts appears to be working on a new location in a retail center in Sterling Heights. The new location is being opened by franchisee Paul Dudgeon, who is currently applying for a special land use permit to redevelop a vacant suite at 2484 Metropolitan Parkway. The Sterling Heights Planning Commission will review the application on Wednesday, December 11.

According to the submittal, Dudgeon proposes to redevelop the 1,800-square-foot suite formerly occupied by Verizon. The owner relocated Verizon to a different suite in anticipation of the upcoming cafe and donut shop to allow for the addition of a drive-thru. The drive-thru cafe will open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday thru Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The store will be able to hold 15 to 20 people during peak hours, and the drive-thru will allow a maximum of 10 cars to stack up.

Established in 2019 by Darrick Hayden and Josh Tudela, Parlor Doughnuts is best known for its trademarked Famous Layered Doughnuts™, which features “layers of buttery dough fried to be crisp on the outside and light/fluffy on the inside” that are made fresh in small daily batches with various customizable toppings. The menu also includes coffees, shakes and breakfast items like avocado toast and acai bowl. The chain also offers keto, vegan, and gluten-friendly products.

What Now Detroit reached out to the franchisee but hadn’t heard back by the time of this coverage. Parlor Doughnuts currently have over 50 locations across the country, with 5 in Michigan at Grand Blanc, Lake Orion, Shelby Township, and Saint Clair Shores. The company’s website also suggests more locations are being planned in Detroit, Grand Traverse, and Saginaw.
