A new vibrant Mexican breakfast and brunch spot is coming to Pilsen this December.

Peke’s Pozole owner Jonathan Macedo recently submitted a liquor license application for 1144 W 18th Street. His new concept will be called Itzchel By Peke’s, replacing the former Golden Gai Sushi & Bar. Macedo is working to debut his new restaurant in a month.

Macedo helped open the first Peke’s Pozole location in 2018 when he was just a teenager. Founded by his mother Petra Macedo, Jonathan took over the business when he turned 18 and built it to be a destination in Archer Heights. He has since opened another concept called Cafe Carranza at 1641 W 18th Street.

Peke’s flagship location, at 4710 S Pulaski Road, serves breakfast items such as huevos al gusto, which are eggs of any style. Eggs are also served with dried steak and molcajete salsa. Flautes and plato plates have proven to be popular items. Macedo said the menu for Itzchel will be similar, with breakfast items that have not been announced.

Peke’s new restaurant is right down the road from Cafe Carranza. It is under construction right now, near Bobijoa Korean Kitchen and La Vaca Margarita Bar. Macedo told What Now Chicago once he found the space was now vacant, he knew it would be the right size for his new concept.

“I decided to go for it,” Macedo said.

The restaurant has not yet been teased online, other than a social media account recently being set up. This is a project that has been in the plans since Macedo took over the business. For more information on the Peke’s brand, visit their website pekespozole.us.
