Beloved restaurant, Dear Margaret, has announced the closure of its iconic Lakeview location in Chicago. After a fire in October, the restaurant had been preparing to reopen. However, the landowner sold the property to a redeveloper, ending Dear Margaret’s run in Lakeview.

Dear Margaret Says Goodbye

In early October, a fire at Dear Margaret made headlines across Lakeview. Despite the damage, the restaurant had plans to reopen quickly. The Lakeview community responded with donations and support for the staff and owners.

Unfortunately, the landowner had other plans. Recently, chef Ruan Brosseau shared the news that Dear Margaret will not be opening at 2965 N. Lincoln. The closure comes after the landowner sold the property.

The building had structural issues before the fire, which were worsened by water and smoke damage. Despite the sudden closure, Dear Margaret plans to reopen at a new location.

Plans to Reopen at a New Location

Although Dear Margaret has closed in Lakeview, the restaurant plans to continue serving the community. In the announcement shared via social media, chef Ryan clearly lays out his plans.

He is actively looking for a new location where Dear Margaret can create a home again. Finding a new location may take time, but Chef Ryan is confident a new chapter is ahead.

Gratitude Towards the Community for the Support

Throughout the fire and the closure announcement, Chef Ryan thanked the Lakeview community for its support. The donations on their GoFundMe have helped the staff get paid when the restaurant was closed. These donations helped staff receive pay until the restaurant officially closed.

Staff were temporarily laid off, with plans to rehire once a new location is secured. The community’s support highlighted its strong connection to Dear Margaret.
