A longtime steak and ribs spot in the northwest neighborhood is being revived next month.
Jefferson Park staple Gale Street Inn is coming back to 4914 N Milwaukee Avenue following its summer closure, per recent reports. The restaurant advertised as some of the best ribs, steak and seafood in the city is now under new ownership. Paulo Villabona, the new owner, told What Now Chicago he is hoping to open the space in early December.
Villabona has previous experience in the restaurant business at Folklore Argentine Restaurant and Maya Del Sol. He has specialized in directing bar operations, and for this role he will be managing the entire space.
When asked about menu changes, Villabona said he and staff are “workshopping some stuff.” He also wants to “pay homage and respect to the hits.”
Gale Street meats include the BBQ ribs half and full slabs, rib king cuts, chicken vesuvio and mac & cheese. Appetizers like calamari, buffalo shrimp and crab cakes were on the menu. Villabona wants to keep some of these items while creating new unique dishes.
The restaurant has been in the city since 1963, first starting out as a small tavern. It is close to other spots like Jefferson Inn and Jefferson Park Grill. This is also close to a CTA Blue Line station and Interstate 90. The location has become a classic destination for the northwest side.
