The iconic Chicago hot dog and Italian beef chain is not done expanding in the Windy City.
From Block Club Chicago, Portillo’s is preparing a new location at 300 N Michigan Avenue, per recent building permits. This is going on the ground floor of the tower, and the company currently has three locations within city limits. A representative from Portillo’s told What Now Chicago there is no information to share at this time.
Portillo’s was founded in 1963 in Villa Park and has become one of the main spots for a Chicago dog, with their beef and sausage sandwich being a staple. Their locations also have char-broiled burgers, chicken, salads and pasta. The menus generally do not vary by location.
What Now Chicago previously reported on Portillo’s coming to 3519 N Clark Street in Wrigleyville. This marks the second planned expansion within city limits for next year.
The company has seen success with restaurants across the country in states like Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Florida and California. They have also recently expanded in Texas in locations such as Dallas and Fort Worth. Right now, the business has over 90 locations around the U.S.
The newest Portillo’s is opening inside the 47-story building developed by Sterling Bay and Magellan Development Group. This is at the corner of E Wacker and N Michigan Ave, close to the Riverwalk.
What Now Chicago has reached out to Portillo’s for further comment, and more information will be released soon.
