A popular bar and kitchen in the suburb is going through a change.

Johnny’s Kitchen and Tap at 1740 Milwaukee Avenue is entering a new chapter as the space is rebranding to Lake Avenue Tavern. The kitchen’s last day of service will be May 11, and then Lake Avenue Tavern is debuting in the middle of June. Owner Mary Venezia told What Now Chicago she and the team have not yet confirmed an official opening date.

The website for Johnny’s is already teasing the new restaurant coming to the community, telling loyal customers to expect many of the same favorite dishes and more.

Bringing you an elevated take on ALL AMERICAN feel good food to include steaks and chops along with our iconic wood-roasted chicken & bbq’d baby back ribs, cold beer and crafted cocktails in a comfortable and modern setting, showing your favorite sporting events!” Says the post.

Johnny’s has been with the Glenview community for over 30 years, serving a lunch and dinner menu with many drinks to choose from. Of their entrees, hand-packed burgers, sandwiches and baby back ribs are served. For lighter options, soups like french onion and chopped salads are available.

The tavern is at the intersection of W Lake and Milwaukee avenues. Monooben Japanese restaurant and Joy Grill are also in the plaza. This stretch of Milwaukee Avenue is home to many restaurant concepts.

What Now Chicago has reached out to Venezia for further comment, and this article may be updated.
