The popular pizza spot in Cherry Valley has plans for northern expansion.

From Rock River Current, the Salamone’s team has found a new location at 9901 Orlando Street in Machesney Park. This is the former Freddy’s Frozen Custard location, which will be renovated with more space for sit-down eating. The family is hoping to open the new restaurant sometime late next year.

The family chain was started by Benny and Rosalie Salamone in 1999, first opening in Cherry Valley. In 2006, the team moved to their current restaurant at 103 S Cherry street. This is set to be their second restaurant, with no other plans for additional expansion as of now.

“Over the years, Salamone’s has been honored with multiple awards and even featured on America’s Best Restaurants—testament to the passion and dedication of our entire family and staff. We’re proud to provide warm, friendly service that makes every guest feel right at home,” says a message from Benny and Rosalie on their website.

Salamone’s has also been voted Rockford’s favorite pizza, also serving soups, salads, calzones and pastas. The pizzas are customizable, with extra thin, regular or pan options. Set staples include the Sal’s Special, with sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, green pepper and anchovies.

The new restaurant will join the plaza with MOD Pizza at the intersection of West Lane and N Alpine roads. A Lowes is just south of the upcoming location, and a Kelley’s Market convenience store along with a Mobil carwash are near the plaza entrance. This is on the north end of Machesney Park.
