A new owner is bringing stacked deli sandwiches to the community a third time.
Hygrade Deli at 3640 Michigan Avenue now has a new owner following the closure earlier this year. Previous owner Chuck Nolen also owns Cutter’s Bar in Eastern Market, and had to give up the business for financial reasons. New owner Kim Lambert told What Now Detroit she is hoping to reopen the deli by the end of October.
This is not the only time Hygrade Deli has gone through a change in ownership, as Stuart Litt owned it for a long time before selling the business to Nolen. The deli was open for 70 years before the early 2026 closure.
“New chapter, same corned beef,” says the description on their Instagram page.
Lambert said the menu will be mostly the same, and the deli is going to be open for dinner as well. In the past, sandwiches have included a hot corned beef, hot pastrami special on rye, a salami sandwich and grilled cheese. Alternatives to sandwiches include salads, cold plates and entrees like hamburger steak.
The well-known deli is on the north side of Michigan Avenue, across from Mike”s Famous Ham Place. Sakura Hibachi Grill is also close-by, along with Ladder 4 Wine Bar. This is a 10-minute drive west of downtown Detroit.
Right now, the business has not posted to social media about the new location, but more updates are expected in the coming weeks.
