The owner of a South Florida sushi concept has seen the success of this neighborhood.
The OMAKAI team recently announced their newest location is coming to 951 W Fulton Market. Additionally, they are opening a River North restaurant at 507 N Wells Street, which will be a hand roll bar. The Fulton Market spot will open first, followed by River North, but official dates have not yet been announced.
Owner Diego Quijada first opened the concept in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami in 2019. Since then, he has expanded to four locations around Southeast Florida, serving hand-crafted omakase sushi. This is his first expansion into the Chicago market.
“The unwavering support of our community is what has driven every step of our growth, and it’s exactly what gives us the confidence to bring our concept to a city like Chicago that truly celebrates great food. We can’t wait to introduce a whole new community to accessible omakase, with warm rice, crispy nori and kind service every single time,” said Quijada in a press release.
OMAKAI will be in the heart of Fulton Market District, at the intersection of N Morgan Street. Also at this building are Italian Homemade Company and The Aviary bar. Discourse Coffee and Pitaki Greek restaurant are right across the street.
Moving to the River North concept, it will share the building next to the Fine Line tile store, next to the No Vacancy restaurant. Hawksmoor Chicago steakhouse is just around the corner from the building. This is a short walk from the Merchandise Mart CTA station.
More information on OMAKAI’s menu and the opening dates will be released in the coming weeks. Visit their Instagram pages @omakaisushi and @omakaihandrollbar for updates.
