An authentic Italian restaurant and neighborhood staple since 1989 is expanding to the Upper East Side this fall.

Caffe Buon Gusto, owned by Nando Ghorchian, will open at 1589 2nd Ave. in the former Osteria Nando space, another restaurant from Ghorchian.

The new location will join Caffe Buon Gusto’s 77th St. restaurant and outposts in Brooklyn and Hoboken, while adding a sports bar and grill component.

“I’ve been doing this for 38 years. I love to try something new. There are sports bars in the neighborhood, but this is something different. More relaxed,” Ghorchian told Whatnow New York City.

Ghorchian said he is eager to bring together two of his favorite things: food and sports.

“I’m excited for people to come in, watch whatever they want, have a bite and enjoy. I get excited when it comes to food and love sports. I used to play sports. I watch games all day, every day,” he said.

The menu will still feature Caffe Buon Gusto staples like homemade pasta with truffle sauce, while also offering grilled dishes such as steaks, burgers, short rib, sea bass and salmon, along with vegetarian and vegan options.

“It’ll always be Buon Gusto but a little different menu. It’s going to be a lot of grilling. I love to make delicious, yummy burgers with sauces. At the end of the day, I’m a chef, so I make a thousand different dishes from Italian, French, Spanish, Middle Eastern, Asian. I like to combine the recipes together and pick up the best of everything,” he said.

The chef prides himself on creating an elevated yet approachable menu, paired with a rustic, taverna-style atmosphere.

Caffe Buon Gusto is in the final stages of preparation and plans to open in mid-September.
