Matcha lovers will soon have two more places to get their fix.
Japanese café and bakery franchise Kyo Matcha, part of IVEA Concepts Restaurant Group, is expanding with two new Greater Boston locations, according to the company’s Instagram bio. The first café is slated to open at 580B Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge before the end of 2026, with a second, as-yet-undisclosed Boston location expected to debut sometime in 2027.
Both cafés will be operated by local franchisee Jaclyn Nguyen, who opened Kyo Matcha’s Brookline location in the spring of 2024. Nguyen told What Now Boston she’s excited to continue introducing the brand’s authentic Japanese tea culture and desserts to even more communities across the region.
Inspired by traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, Kyo Matcha’s newest location will introduce a fresh concept for the brand. Unlike the Brookline café, the Cambridge outpost will feature a larger, tea house-inspired space encouraging guests to slow down and relax.
“This new site will feature a unique tea house concept, setting it apart from our Brookline location,” said Nguyen. “We aim to create an immersive dining experience that invites guests to relax and enjoy our offerings in a tranquil setting.”
The expanded café will also allow Kyo Matcha to showcase an exclusive offering: single-cultivar matcha sourced directly from the Uji Matcha Supply Factory in Japan, a region celebrated for producing some of the world’s finest green tea.
“Known for its limited harvest and exceptional quality, this matcha will be hand-whisked right in front of our customers, allowing them to appreciate the artistry and tradition behind this exquisite beverage,” explained Nguyen. “We believe this interactive experience will elevate their enjoyment and connection to our offerings.”
Beyond its premium teas, Kyo Matcha will continue serving the same Japanese-inspired drinks and desserts that have made the brand a viral sensation, including matcha lattes, teas, boba drinks, slushes, caffeine-free beverages, matcha ice cream, cheesecakes, specialty cakes, and its signature towel cake—an airy crepe cake filled with whipped cream and rolled to resemble a neatly folded towel.
Nguyen said the third Greater Boston location remains in the planning stages, with additional details to be announced as the project moves forward. In the meantime, guests can follow @kyomatchaboston on Instagram for construction updates and grand opening announcements.
