The Home Depot is growing its footprint just north of Charleston.
The home improvement giant purchased a 22.2-acre site from the developer behind the new Nexton community, paying nearly $10.7 million for the vacant parcel along State Road in Summerville, according to The Post and Courier.
The new store will join other Charleston-area locations in North Charleston, East Charleston, Mount Pleasant and a second Summerville site on Marymeade Drive.
A spokesperson for The Home Depot told What Now Charleston no additional information is available at this time.
Home Depot also announced big plans in March to open 12 warehouse-style outlets this year across Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.
“While many retailers are closing brick-and-mortar locations, The Home Depot is expanding its physical presence to better serve the modern builder and the inspired homeowner. By moving inventory and expert support closer to some of the nation’s fastest growing regions, the company is shortening the distance between a project’s start and its completion,” a press release read.
Since South Carolina was not included on the list, the new Summerville location is likely to be at least a year away from opening.
A typical store averages 105,000 square feet of indoor retail space and is connected to an e-commerce platform offering more than one million products for DIY shoppers, professional contractors and do-it-for-me customers through the industry’s largest installation business.
The retailer was founded in 1978 by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank, with the first stores opening in Atlanta. Today, it operates more than 2,300 stores across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
