A pickle-themed deli is getting revived in more ways than one this year.
From Block Club Chicago, the popular Chicago Pickle Eatery team plans on reopening their Avondale location at 3055 N Milwaukee Avenue following a fire last September. This comes after the recent opening of their Wicker Park deli at 1308 N Milwaukee Avenue. Owner Mohamad Atieh is hard at work to reintroduce the Avondale spot to the community by the end of this year.
The fire that happened last year was small, but still required the restaurant to pause operations while renovations were being done. Atieh is using this time to also change the concept into a half deli and half dessert bar. It will be very similar to the Wicker Park location that just opened.
“We’re replicating this in Avondale once we open,” Atieh said.
Chicago Pickle Eatery has a wide range of hot breakfast sandwiches, wings, subs and build-your-own handheld options. Of their giant sandwiches, The Chicago Pickle is served with pastrami, corn beef, coleslaw and, of course, pickles. A pastry menu for the new concepts has not been released.
The Wicker Park deli takes over the former Angry Crab space, nestled between The Green Ape and Chengdu Impression restaurants near the intersection of W Division Street. It is close to the Division Red Line CTA station in the center of West Town.
Moving north, Atieh is working to reopen the Avondale spot at the intersection of N Milwaukee and N Lawndale avenues. He did not give details on construction progress, but said he is working with the landlord to get the project done.
