Two brothers and owners of Hamburger Mary’s want to open a new Chicago location following shutting down their Andersonville restaurant in 2020.
Brothers Brandon and Ashley Wright recently applied for a liquor license at 1055 W Bryn Mawr Avenue in Edgewater. The license was applied for on April 21, and there have been no approvals as of yet. Previously at 5400 N Clark Street in Andersonville, the spot was known as an LGBTQ+ friendly restaurant and had been around for almost 15 years.
The brothers have Hamburger Mary’s locations in Dallas, Denver, Jacksonville, Florida, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Long Beach, California, Milwaukee, Ontario, Canada, Orlando, Toledo, Ohio and West Hollywood. The restaurants are known for their custom burgers and drinks, along with drag shows called “Dining with the Divas,” karaoke and trivia nights.
In 2020, it was reported by Block Club Chicago the owners closed their Andersonville location due to their lease ending. At that time, they were seeking a new location but put off plans while the pandemic was happening. Before closing, the restaurant had a “drag queen drive-thru” as it was difficult to serve inside.
The address for the license, 1055 W Bryn Mawr Avenue, is in stretch of stores, and it is not yet known where exactly the restaurant would be built. It would sit in the middle of the Edgewater neighborhood near North Broadway.
As of now, there is no official announcement from the owners. What Now Chicago has reached out, and this article may be updated.
