According to a recent article from the Daily Herald, Papagus Gyros in Lake Zurich recently filed for a liquor license at 1110 S Old Rand Road.

A representative of Papagus Gyros declined further commentary at this time upon What Now Chicago’s request.

While the menu expansion and the parameters of such have yet to be confirmed, according to the previously mentioned article, the village board approved the liquor license on Monday.

The focus of the newly acquired liquor license will primarily be on packaged beer and wine, according to restaurant founder Peter Diamond. The restaurant’s limited seating capacity, with just three or four tables for dine-in customers, aligns with its predominantly carryout-oriented model.

The hope was to also introduce video gambling machines; however, village regulations did not permit this due to seating limitations. As per Diamond’s explanation, the current table count categorizes the establishment as a gaming cafe, making it ineligible for such machines.

Papagus Gyros describes itself as a family-owned and operated business for almost 20 years.  They offer many delicious food items such as souvlaki, beef, chicken, and burgers. They specialize in gyros, served with homemade tzatziki sauce, according to the company website.

Papagus is described as a cherished establishment that has been open for nearly two decades, with its origins dating back to its original location on North Rand Road. However, it was in 2021 that a new chapter unfolded when Peter’s sons, Gus and John Diamond, took the reins and opened the current location, according to the Daily Herald’s article.
