When news broke that franchisee Jason Beld would soon open a Dave’s Hot Chicken at 2910 E. Colfax Ave., Denverites were excited. After all, the shuttered building not only serves as an eyesore but a reminder that Pete Contos’ once lively and delicious eatery, Pete’s Greek Town Cafe, is no more — despite it being an aid-memoire of his legacy.

But that was over a year ago. The project never took off as Dave’s Hot Chicken recently “terminated the lease agreement,” Forrest Hunt of the Crosbie Real Estate Group told Denverite.

Today, the property is advertised as both a restaurant and a “redevelopment opportunity,” with the asking price remaining a mystery. Pete’s wife, Elizabeth, is still the owner.

It’s currently unclear if Beld has found or will soon settle on a new Denver/Colorado location.
