A space in Eastern Market is bringing coffee, cocktails and music to the neighborhood.

Rent Free Coffee and Community is a daytime coffee shop and evening cocktail bar to open at 1347 E Fisher Freeway. It comes from owner Lamont Leak, who has experience in hospitality, television and music. Leak said this has been in the works for about three years, and he is hoping to debut his concept sometime in the first half of June.

“Craft cocktails + small bites + a vibe; something familiar and different,” says a recent post from Leak.

While Leak has been crafting up the new concept, and has hosted local events to showcase the business. In December, he hosted a holiday party at Baru in downtown, where entrepreneurs could come together. This was to tease what is to come with his new concept, a cafe and bar for locals to connect and network.

The new community space is coming to the intersection of Russell Street, close to Supino Pizzeria and Zeff’s Coney Island. This is on the south side of Eastern Market. The cafe is situated next to Materia Gallery.

Coffee, cocktail and appetizer menus will be released closer to the opening. For more updates on Rent Free and the opening date, visit their Instagram @rentfreedetroit.
