Located at the intersection of Atlantic Boulevard and Kernan Boulevard North in Jacksonville, the Atlantic North retail center is home to Academy Sports + Outdoors, along with a wide range of restaurants, from Chik-fil-A to Another Broken Egg Cafe.
Now, Kroger-owned grocery store chain Harris Teeter is at work on a new location there, and according to coverage by the Jacksonville Daily Record, it has begun construction on the site, which will be between Academy Sports and LA Fitness.
Founded in 1960 by North Carolina grocers W.T. Harris and Willis Teeter, Harris Teeter is a subsidiary of the Kroger Co., and it operates more than 250 stores in seven states and Washington, D.C. The company is also involved in a number of forms of charitable giving to fight hunger.
“Harris Teeter’s number one giving priority is feeding hungry families,” the Harris Teeter website says. “Many families don’t know where their next meal will come from, which is why we are committed to partnering with local Feeding America food banks to provide hunger relief to families, including children, seniors and veterans, within our communities facing food insecurity. Through corporate giving, vendor partnerships and the generosity of our valued associates and loyal shoppers, we’re able to place millions of meals in the homes of hungry families.”
After groundbreaking on April 24, Company President Tammy DeBoer said she “expected to expand throughout the region and state,” said another Jacksonville Daily Record article.
The 61,204-square-foot grocery store, together with an adjacent 3,200-square-foot liquor store, is expected to open in Spring 2027.
