After more than a decade serving Sacramento diners, Mother Sacramento has permanently closed. The popular vegetarian restaurant served its final dinner on Friday, June 19. Owner-chef Robb Venditti said an ADA complaint played a significant role in the decision to close the restaurant.
Award-Winning Mother Sacramento Exits the Dining Scene
Mother first opened in downtown Sacramento on K Street in 2014. The restaurant was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand award in 2019, and in 2020, it was shut down. The owner reopened the restaurant in 2023 in the Midtown neighborhood.
Before closing, the Midtown location also received Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition in 2019. The restaurant became known for its fully vegetarian menu and welcoming outdoor dining space. The menu featured whole ingredients and traditional cooking.
The team announced the closure in an Instagram post on June 22. The team wrote, “Unfortunately, we’ve made the tough decision to permanently close Mother restaurant in midtown.”
The restaurant held its last day of service on June 19, marking the end of its longstanding story. In the post, the restaurant team thanked the Sacramento community for its support.

What Led to the Closure
According to a report by The Sacramento Bee report, the restaurant received an ADA complaint. The owner-chef, Robb Venditti, revealed that he received papers detailing several minor violations, which could have led to heavy expenses. Following the complaint, the owner decided that he could no longer continue operating the business.
Mother has recently turned its first net profit. The owner also highlighted his desire to spend more time with his family.
“I was just kind of like, I’m already not seeing my kids that are 13 and 11 years old, and this situation is like the prime time of their lives,” stated the owner in the report.
With the abrupt closure of Mother in Midtown, the vegetarian community in Sacramento has lost a staple.
