A Bay Area Dumpling Restaurant Was Recommended to Close Due to Rodent Activity

The San Francisco Department of Health conducted a routine health inspection at Dumpling Time on June 16. According to the inspection report, health officials suspended the restaurant’s permit and ordered it to close immediately.

The restaurant was cited for major health code violations, including rodent activity in the facility, dirty equipment, and holes in the walls.

Dumpling Time is a popular modern Cal-Asian restaurant in San Francisco. It is known for serving homemade, fresh dumplings, noodles, and dim sum. According to the official inspection report, the violations included the following:

  • The report noted rodent activity throughout the facility, including three live mice in the kitchen and mouse droppings found on food storage boxes and flour bags.
  • The report states that the person in charge discarded affected food items and captured four mice during the inspection.
  • The report instructed the restaurant to clean and sanitize the affected areas with bleach immediately and contact a pest control company to service the entire facility. The restaurant is required to provide the pest control report to the inspector.

  • The inspection report stated that the person in charge should discard unsanitary and broken food equipment or utensils.
  • The staff was instructed to discard all contaminated food immediately. The report found several chewed-on food boxes and bags in the kitchen area.
  • The report found holes in the walls in the private dining area. Gaps at the bottoms of the front and side entrance doors were also noted.
  • The staff was advised to seal all gaps and holes. The restaurant staff must repair and replace the loose door sweeps to prevent vermin entry.

According to the report, a closure notice was issued, and the restaurant’s permit was suspended, temporarily.

The restaurant is required to correct all the violations identified in the inspection report before requesting a reinspection. The restaurant was instructed to contact Inspector Bwogi for follow-up inspections.
