Chuze Fitness, a California-based gym chain, is preparing to open two new locations in San Diego County, including one in Escondido at 230 E Via Rancho Parkway and another in Mira Mesa at 8985 Mira Mesa Boulevard.
The company recently submitted documents to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality to move into the former home of 24 Hour Fitness inside the Escondido North County Mall. While an exact opening date has not yet been announced, the company’s website lists the location as “Coming in 2026.” The Misa Mesa location will replace Rite Aid at the Mesa Shopping Center.
The upcoming Escondido North County Mall gym will mark another expansion for the rapidly growing fitness brand, which already operates an existing location in Escondido at 409 W Felicita Avenue. Chuze Fitness currently has locations across California, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, New Mexico, and Texas, with several additional gyms planned to open throughout 2026.
Founded in California, Chuze Fitness has built its business around offering affordable memberships and full-service fitness amenities in large-format spaces. Memberships start at $9.99 per month, according to the company’s website. The gyms typically feature free weights, cardio machines, turf training areas, fitness classes, and recovery services, depending on membership tier and location.
The move into the former 24 Hour Fitness space gives Chuze Fitness a large footprint within one of Escondido’s most established retail centers. These will be excellent landing spaces for the company, given both malls’ visibility, the surrounding residential neighborhoods, and the steady daily traffic generated by nearby retail and dining tenants.
