DICK’S House of Sport is headed for 1702 Camino Del Rio in Mission Valley. The upcoming store will be part of the current rebranding of Mission Valley Shopping Center, which is being renamed The Valley. A recent press release from The Valley confirmed that the location will become California’s first DICK’S House of Sport concept, occupying a 158,000-square-foot former Macy’s building at the center.
The concept goes beyond a traditional sporting goods store, offering immersive experiences such as a climbing wall, golf simulators, an outdoor track-and-field area, and multi-sport cages for baseball, softball, soccer, and lacrosse, giving athletes an opportunity to try a product while measuring and tracking their performance. The new location will also be one of the largest House of Sport stores in the country, according to the release.
While excitement continues to build around the project, Peyton Wherley from DICK’S Sporting Goods’ PR team confirmed to What Now San Diego that an official opening date has not yet been announced. However, this House of Sport addition is part of a larger transformation happening at The Valley, with partners Lowe and Real Capital Solutions continuing to redevelop the 1.1-million-square-foot center into a modern lifestyle destination featuring new shops, restaurants, plazas, entertainment concepts, and retailers.
“We are creating a modern, dynamic retail experience that pulses with energy and creativity, giving visitors compelling opportunities to connect, and more reasons to visit, linger, eat, and shop,” Todd Majcher, Lowe executive vice president, said in a press release. “DICK’S House of Sport will amplify that spirit with the wealth of delightful new experiences it will offer guests at the newly renamed Mission Valley shopping center.”
