A chef who spent time in Bangkok is bringing flavors from the city to the western neighborhood.
Chanita Chayaluk, the owner of a new concept called Taan, recently submitted a liquor license application for her restaurant coming to 2759 W Augusta Boulevard in Humboldt Park. This is her first concept and will serve dishes from Thailand with Midwest inspiration. Chayaluk told What Now Chicago she is hoping to open the restaurant around Aug. 17 for friends and family, and officially start service on Aug. 20.
Chayaluk has wanted to be a chef from a young age, and applied to chef’s school in 2008. Due to the recession that year, Chayaluk decided to go into higher education for a while, but cooking was always in the back of her mind. A few years ago, she decided to leave her career in education and attended the Le Cordon Bleu cooking school in Thailand, where she gained skills necessary to create her own menu.
“It’s been brewing for sometime now,” Chayaluk said.
The menu is not being released right now, but those dining in can expect traditional Thai dishes with seasonal flavors. Along with the dining room, a wine bar is also being installed. Chayaluk said the wines served are going to pair with the dishes.
This is an area of Humboldt Park with many drinking and dining options, As Rootstock Wine & Beer Bar is across N California Avenue, as well as Spinning J Bakery and Soda Fountain cafe. The location will also be next to the Cannaelado ice cream spot, and Segnatore Italian restaurant is right across W Augusta Boulevard.
