Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood is soon to welcome a new rooftop restaurant, ARLA. The restaurant is located on the sixth floor at 15 E. Oak Street and will open on June 18. It combines Mediterranean and Japanese flavors while serving views of Lake Michigan and the city skyline.

The design takes cues from coastal destinations around the world. The menu centers on shareable dishes served in a casual, social setting.

“We wanted ARLA to reflect the kinds of meals and places we dream of coming back to while traveling,” says Chef/Partner Soo Ahn. “The menu pulls from a lot of different coastal cultures and flavors, but everything is rooted in being fresh and easily shareable. More than anything, we wanted guests to feel a connection from the moment they step off those elevators, whether they’re stopping by for martinis and seafood on the terrace or settling in for a long dinner with friends.”

ARLA occupies an 8,500-square-foot space that blends Mediterranean warmth with Japanese elegance. Designed by LG Group and Offshoot Creative, the space features natural materials and refined finishes.

The interior includes terracotta plaster walls, walnut woodwork, polished brass accents, and jade quartzite surfaces. The curved banquettes, patterned fabrics, and soft lighting create a welcoming atmosphere. Arched reeded-glass partitions provide views into the kitchen.

The space features private and semi-private dining rooms that are located behind the central bar. These rooms have custom wallpaper, sculptural chandeliers, and distinct design elements. The rooms are designed to accommodate private dinners and special events.

A standout feature of the restaurant is its two outdoor terraces that overlook Lake Michigan and Chicago’s Gold Coast. The terraces are connected to the main dining room with retractable floor-to-ceiling windows. The retractable windows help connect the indoor dining room with the outdoor terraces.

A Menu Inspired by Coastal Destinations

Chef and partner Soo Ahn’s menu draws from Mediterranean and Japanese culinary traditions. It draws inspiration from coastal destinations ranging from the French Riviera to Okinawa. The menu incorporates ingredients and cooking styles associated with both regions.

Menu offerings include seafood crudo, sushi rolls, pita and spreads, mezze plates, skewers, grilled meats, and vegetable dishes. The menu highlights include Japanese Yellowtail Crudo, Caviar Sando, Tzatziki Salmon Maki, Grilled Cod, and Cauliflower Steak. The beverage program features cocktails made with fresh ingredients and a selection of wines and sake.

ARLA will join a growing lineup of dining destinations in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood.
