Pizzeria Locale Boulder at 1730 Pearl St. — carrying the same name, but separate business status of the Denver fast casual chain — will rebrand as Pizzeria Alberico in 2023. While co-owners Bobby Stuckey and Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson also jointly own five Pizzeria Locale fast casual stores in Denver with Chipotle, the Boulder location has always been a solo venture for the pair. Now it will stand out by name and operation when Locale Boulder’s doors close on January 1.

First reported in The Denver Post, the renovated Pizzeria Alberico will remain 3,000 square feet, offering 60 seats to tuck into a similar yet expanded menu to go along with classic Neopolitan pie — raw tomato, tender mozzarella, fresh basil, and olive oil. There’s no need to worry, though. Locale Boulder’s classic Budino butterscotch pudding will still be on Alberico’s menu.

“There will be menu changes, and a new design,” Mackinnon-Patterson said in a conversation with What Now Denver. “We’ll move from being just a pizzeria to having other dishes. We added starters, things to share, maybe pasta…”

The name Pizzeria Alberico is an ode to Stuckey’s in-laws (per the Post). The family immigrated to the United States from San Vittorino, Italy and eventually made their way out West. Being a sommelier, the family had a huge influence on Stuckey, so Pizzeria Alberico is his way of honoring that heritage. New design elements will include color splashes and a softened look from a standard black-and-white-checkered pizzeria floor to wood grain.

Mackinnon-Patterson and Stuckey aim to reopen Pizzeria Alberico in mid-February 2023.
