From Italy to New York, a restaurant owner is now heading to the Midwest for his latest concept.
Sugo Pasta Bar will soon serve up noodles at 203 4th Avenue in downtown Ann Arbor, from a recent job posting. This concept comes from Moreno Cerutti, owner of Osteria Carlina in New York City. Cerutti told What Now Detroit he is hoping to open the concept in September or October.
“We are building a fresh pasta-focused concept inspired by Italy: handmade pasta, seasonal ingredients, fried appetizers, simple desserts, and a high-energy open kitchen. Think slow food executed fast, with discipline and consistency,” says the job post description.
What Now New York covered Osteria Carlina opening in Tribeca in 2022. At the time, it was an expansion project as Cerutti already debuted the restaurant in West Village. He opened the concept with his wife, Christina, and have since been serving loaded pastas, filets, appetizers and cocktails.
The restaurant is opening near the intersection of E Ann Street, next to Fourth Ave Birkenstock shoe store. This is also across from Mindo Chocolate Makers Shop. Ann Arbor’s lively neighborhood Kerrytown is close-by.
Downtown Ann Arbor already has a competitive restaurant scene, with Italian spots like Paesano Restaurant & Wine Bar and Mani Osteria and Bar. As most of the dining options are just south of E Ann Street, it will fill a market in this area.
On the phone, Cerutti expressed his excitement about coming to the college town. He will be releasing more information soon, with the addition of a website and social media pages.
