A bar and grill will come back with a new look this fall.

From Detroit Free Press, Wheat & Rye is closing their Romulus location at 7000 Merriman Road for renovation work. According to owner Martin DaRonco, the renovations will be “superficial” and will accompany new menu items. DaRonco told What Now Detroit he is hoping to reopen around football season in September.

The flagship location opened in 1981 at 7721 Allen Road in Allen Park, and is still currently open. Another restaurant is at 15400 Pennsylvania Road in Southgate. In the past, What & Rye has operated in Dearborn Heights, Westland and Grosse Pointe.

“We have a great, great following,” DaRonco said.

While there will be a refresh for the menu, many of the same items at Southgate and Allen Park will still be available. These include appetizers like onion rings and chicken fingers, salads, paninis, sliders and burgers. As the restaurants also feature bars, drinks are served like beer, cocktails and margheritas.

The address is at the intersection of Ecorse Road, close to That One Truck taco spot. Other concepts across Merriman Road include Sunny’s Coney Island & Family Restaurant and Bar 101. This is just north of Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

Although the business is listed as “permanently closed” online, it is definitely coming back. DaRonco will be updating the community on the bar and grill’s reopening in the coming months.
