A space for creatives to grab a coffee is coming to the city.

The Cafe at MOTO is a new concept under construction at 721 Saratoga near downtown Ferndale. The space is designed to be a creative studio for painters, designers, engineers and more. Managing partner Hunter Erdman told What Now Detroit that while the cafe will be open to members only starting May 16, the team is hoping to carry out a soft opening by the end of spring.

Erdman is the owner of MOTO as a business, which is already a machine shop in Ferndale. He is working with Andy French, who is considered the owner/operator of The Cafe at MOTO. The two will be introducing their concept together once it opens.

“We’ve been spitballing the idea for a long time,” Erdman said.

French is still working on the drink menu, and is experimenting with syrups to use in the coffees. Customers can expect a variety of fresh roasts. He added the food options will include grab-and-go charcuterie items, as well as European-style sandwiches with French baguettes or ciabatta bread.

Moto’s cafe will be inside the roastery space at the corner of E Saratoga Avenue and Hilton Road. This is just east of Ferndale’s downtown, close to concepts like Thai Garden Restaurant and Apple Fritter Donut Shop.

In the past, the company has held an open house to showcase their cars and coffee from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. every Sunday. For updates on Moto Cafe, visit their Instagram @moto.michigan.
