Activate Games is bringing its high-energy, interactive gaming experience to Jacksonville, with a new location planned for 10275 Buckhead Branch Drive, in St. Johns Town Center.

According to the company’s website, the Jacksonville location is currently listed as ‘Coming Soon’. The roughly 8,700-square-foot space is planned for the former Ballard Designs location near Dillard’s and Nordstrom.

The new entertainment destination will give players the chance to move, compete and solve challenges across a series of technology-driven game rooms. Activate describes its concept as an active gaming experience where players jump, climb, problem-solve and work their way through challenges while interactive technology responds to their movements in real time.

Rather than sitting in front of a screen, players become part of the game. Depending on the challenge, that can mean navigating laser obstacles, climbing interactive walls, solving puzzles or racing against friends to earn a high score.

The Jacksonville facility is expected to feature about 80 games and roughly 800 levels spread across more than a dozen interactive rooms. Planned game rooms include experiences such as Control, Grid, Grip, Hide, Hoops, Laser, Mega Grid, Mega Laser, Pipes, Press, Scan and Strike.

Activate’s games are designed for both cooperation and competition, giving groups the option to work together or go head-to-head. Players can also track their progress and scores, adding a competitive element for those looking to improve and climb the rankings.

The company also offers all-you-can-play passes at its locations, allowing guests to move between games and replay challenges during their session. Activate says its experiences are built to test both physical and mental skills, with new challenges and ways to compete adding to the replay value.

The Jacksonville location will be part of a growing international footprint for Activate, which launched in Winnipeg, Canada, in 2017. The company has expanded across North America and into international markets, including the United Kingdom and Middle East, with additional locations continuing to open.

An opening date has not yet been announced publicly. For now, Activate’s Jacksonville website simply lists the location as coming soon and invites prospective players to sign up for updates.
