A Memphis retail center is getting a taste of the sweeter side of the Middle East. Petra Pastry is preparing to bring its authentic Jordanian-Palestinian desserts to a Hacks Cross Road storefront, as evidenced by recent permitting documents.
The bakery, founded by Asad Almalhi and his wife Maisaa Hassan, was issued a certificate of occupancy by the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development on May 20. The paperwork shows that the 4205 Hacks Cross Road, suite 111 storefront will afford Petra Pastry 1,400 square feet and will have an occupant load of 9.
The concept, described as “Bakery, sweets and coffee house”, already has one location open and baking at 5804 Raleigh Lagrange Road. An opening timeline is not presently available for Petra’s second home; What Now Memphis has reached out to ownership and will update readers as details emerge.
Petra Pastry has become an area favorite, thanks to its warmth, hospitality and-of course-delicious menu which features “a diverse range of traditional sweets like kunafa, baklava, and basbousa.”
The bakery is bound to find a whole new audience with its second home, as it continues its mission, described on the website as: “The cooking philosophy emphasizes the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients, sourced carefully to ensure each dish reflects the culinary traditions of the region. Culinary techniques are rooted in time-honored practices, blending flavors that create a memorable dining experience. As the bakery looks to the future, the vision remains focused on delivering exceptional food and service, fostering a welcoming atmosphere where guests can explore the delights of Middle Eastern delicacies.”
