A closure does not mean the pizza spot is leaving the neighborhood forever.
Lou Malnati’s is closing their Gold Coast location at 1120 N State Street next month, per a report from Chicago Business Journal. Following this, the team plans on debuting a new location in Gold Coast and are in negotiations for a lease. The new restaurant could open as early as next year.
Locations serve a variety of Chicago deep dish, including the Deep Dish Triple Pepp loaded with pepperoni slices, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Their pastas options include classics like lasagna, spaghetti and bowtie pasta. Locations also offer thin crust options, salads and appetizers like wings and bruschetta.
The company originally opened ni 1971 and has since been growing regionally and nationally, with around 60 locations in Chicagoland alone. The restaurant is already set up in Chicago neighborhoods including River North, The Loop, Near North Side and South Loop. What Now Chicago previously covered their planned location in St. Charles.
While the restaurant’s lease expires on June 30, Lou Malnati’s will open an offsite kitchen to serve the neighborhood. This interim location has not yet been announced.
The Gold Coast pizzeria opened in 2011, and is on the west side of N State Street, next to Viceroy Chicago hotel. Other concepts in the area include a Velvet Taco, Maple & Ash steakhouse and Somerset new American restaurant.
What Now Chicago has reached out to the Lou Malnati’s executive team and is awaiting comment. More information on the locations can be found on their website.
