Owners of a new neighborhood bar are joining the neighborhood’s thriving night life scene.
News Bar is a new project that is being teased for 806 N Clark Street in River North. The space is influenced by Irish pubs and taverns in the city. The team is targeting a spring 2027 opening date.
The bar comes from hospitality veteran Seth Blumenthal, owner of Lemon cocktail bar in West Town. What Now Chicago previously covered the bar opening in fall 2023 at 1600 W Grand Avenue. For this concept, Blumenthal is hoping to debut a more casual option for River North.
“A comfortable place to just be yourself. Drink a properly made classic cocktail, better wine than you expect, or an ice cold glass of beer from a few heritage choices to what’s new and interesting,” says the description on their website.
While it is early in the opening process, the website already reveals the kinds of drinks and food that will be served. These include sandwiches, fries and cocktails. As it is a tavern, beers on tap can be expected as well. The team promises “reasonable prices” for the bar.
News Bar will serve the neighborhood at the intersection of W Chicago Avenue. Nimble coffee shop, Zenblen juice shop, Deep Purple Acai and Ingrained dessert shop are also at this building. This is a short walk from the Chicago Red Line station.
What Now Chicago has reached out to the owners and is awaiting comment. More updates on News Bar can also be found on their Instagram page.
