A Southeast Michigan ramen group has found a new suburb to serve simmering bowls.
House of Umami recently announced on social media their newest restaurant is coming to 18785 Traditions Drive in Northville. The new space will have a large kitchen and outdoor patio. Owner Sean Green told What Now Detroit there is no opening date as construction is still ongoing.
For the menu, Green said it will mostly be the same as other locations, with in-house made ramen, and hand-cut chashu. At their Canton restaurant, the umami house serves fresh sushi, small plates and artisan ramen with flavors like chicken shio, curry and stir-fried. He has seen many of their ramen dishes be the most popular options.
“It’s a great culinary experience,” Green said.
The ramen restaurant also operates in Jackson, and Green has plans to open in Shelby Township, Novi, Troy, Rochester Hills, West Bloomfield and Macomb. Northville will be the company’s third location.
Green opened the first House of Umami in February, 2024 in Canton. Since then, the chain has grown quickly due to popularity in the suburbs. At his locations, he hires chefs specializing in Japanese cuisine.
The newest location is set to arrive near the intersection of Haggerty and 7 Mile, next to BurgerFi. There is a Chipotle and Kimchi Box Plus Korean restaurant at the plaza next door, and Granite City Food & Brewery is also in the parking lot. This is on the east side of Northville.
